If you had to make a list of areas that you needed to improve on in terms of public speaking, what would they be? This does not mean that you should list "good practices" rather, make a list of what you as an individual have trouble with.
Next, describe how you plan to fix these different areas.
Personally, I need to improve on being more confident in myself and projecting my voice more. I also need to work on making eye contact in general (switching from person to person everynow and then, keep a steardy connection with the person spoken to)
ReplyDeleteI need to work on not smiling or laughing. It's really hard for me not to smile when I speak in front of people, and I know that would only get worse if we compete. I also need to work on sounding like I'm talking to an individual person, rather then a mass of people. I don't want to sound like I'm reading from a script.
ReplyDeleteI think the main way I could improve these things would be through practice. I'll try to act like I'm in a serious courtroom; and, hopefully that will help with the smiling.
Jonathan, I also have trouble sounding confident. I think that as we practice speaking in class we'll really improve.
ReplyDeleteI need to find ways to structure my sentences without saying "like", "sorta", and "um".
ReplyDeleteWhen I am confident, and I know what I am talking about, I usually do not run into those words, but when I am not, I run into those words.
I also need to not be repetitive

ReplyDeleteI need to work on not saying "like" or "um" and I need to have more eye contact. I also want to avoid being repetitive with my words and points. Additionally I really want to work on not smiling so much.
For me, I need to improve on not swaying from side to side, and to move around and use my space better!
ReplyDeleteFor the next question about what I see myself doing in a perfect speach, this is what goes with that: I envision myself standing at a podium, table, courtroom, or anywhere I happen to be and just letting my thoughts flow out of my mouth cogently and with purpose. I would use hand gestures, engage my audience, and convey my point in a manner that is interesting to all of my spectators. I will walk around and speak one on one with the onlookers to make the feel like and integral part of my speach.
